El Sol Sale Para Todos.
The sun shines for everyone.
Collectivism: a cultural pattern where people value the group over the individual. People in collectivistic cultures prioritize the goals of their group, such as their family, community, and nation, over their own personal goals.
Individualism: a society that prioritizes the individual over the group. People in individualistic cultures prioritize their own goals and are only motivated by their own preferences and viewpoints.
Both have a place.
But when one stands alone — especially individualism — it can become self-destructive, a quiet suicide of the soul.
Hispanics/Latinos come from a collectivistic culture. We are raised to share, to love, to protect, to put the group before ourselves. Caucasian America was built on individualism. Freedom is isolation. Independence is armor - they think. And here we are - Mexican/Latino Americans- walking the line between both worlds.
The truth is, there’s room for both. But balance is everything.
I don’t feel rage often, but when I do - it burns deep. It’s not hate. It’s love on fire. My rage is powered by passion, by the love I have for my people, for a country built on immigrants and freedom to be whatever and whoever we want, for who I am, and where I come from. It’s a gift from the universe. And yet, I look around at people who claim to know God through the church, and I see NO reflection of it in their hearts. My higher power would never treat others with such hate.
So I ask:
Where is that love your ‘God taught’?
Where is the mercy?
Why are you not worthy of giving it or receiving it?
It must only feel this awful for you every day. To live with so much ignorance, hate, and to feel unlovable not only by those around you but by yourself.
Maybe you’ve never seen it that way.
Because what are you protecting?
Gas prices? You don’t even travel.
Abortion? How many have you had? When did you get on contraceptives?
Taxes? You’re already more than likely in the lowest bracket.
Women's rights? I’m sorry your father never valued your mother in your household, who didn’t teach you the value of a woman. Sorry, your mom was silenced by years of men saying they’re better- when it’s women who hold the portal of life. We.Are.The.Creators.Of.Man.
Immigration? How did Christopher Columbus get here? They immigrated. He colonized. They immigrated to the land of the indigenous and poisoned it enough to get us to this point, and now have the audacity to blame it on the people of color.
Before any white man set foot here, this land belonged to Indigenous people - we spoke in tongues of nature. Spanish and English - both colonizer languages. Yet those you follow hate the Spanish tongue when it was their people who brought it here, and now want to get rid of a whole language. Neither belongs to us.
You fear the “lazy Mexicans stealing from your tax dollars”?
Yet follow those whose culture enslaved others to do their work?
Follow those who fear “criminals and rapists,” but worship one in power?
Your own beliefs are hypocrisy on parade and inconsistency, and it’s so obvious based on your character. You’re so lost.
PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS MOVED.
HUMANS HAVE ALWAYS MIGRATED - way before due processes were set by colonizers.
We’re not here for long, and when our time is up, we’ll have no control over it. People of all kinds will commute through our current spaces.
It’s been happening all through time.
Europeans once traveled here for “better” because they were free to explore this world that belongs to no one. They burned villages and called it destiny. They raped our women and called it discovery. They took the land and called it theirs.
And now, you call us illegal. Be fucking for real.
We are the descendants of those who first loved this soil. We will continue to immigrate, to travel, to explore -because it’s what humans do.
The sun shines for everyone.
I’m sorry you didn’t feel loved by your parents.
I’m sorry you’re parents prioritized monetization, which led you to lose sight of the values of what a hardworking immigrant person is like.
I’m sorry you surrounded yourself with other bigoted people and never saw what true community looks like.
I’m sorry you hate yourself so much that you forget who you are and where you come from.
I’m sorry you haven’t been able to succeed in this lifetime, so you vote for pennies and scraps.
I’m sorry you didn’t keep any good values.
I’m sorry you didn't feel supported to be educated on the matter.
I’m sorry you’ve taken your culture for granted.
I’m sorry you don’t value the lives of others more.
I’m sorry you’re so lost in your own identity.
I’m sorry for you.
Still -
The proud and standing communities of color don’t hate you. We pity you.
Pity that these are your “wins.”
Maybe in another life, your parents will hold you tighter, teach you pride in your heritage, and show you what love feels like. Because they came here for something bigger - to the land of freedom to one day vote for what is right and with your heart, not your fear.
To vote as a proud indigenous.
To vote for your rights and not for a tax or gas break.
To vote for overall safety and not vote for a gun to make you feel safe.
You sold the rights of others for what exactly? What is better than hurting families, wrecking homes, and violating our basic rights? You were bought out. Shame. I’m sorry those you follow have failed you and led you to live such an empty life when you could have had it all!
Because you may not know this- those who stick with their people- WE HAVE IT ALL!
Remember that our strength was never in division, but in our hands joined beneath the same sun.
To My People
As for my Hispanos/Latinos who couldn’t vote or feel like we lost - listen:
You are elite.
The proud descendants of resilient land warriors.
We are of this land.
And Mother Nature does not forget who loved, cropped, and nurtured her first.
This is not a loss. It is an awakening. An awakening to see how blessed we are, even with nothing at all. How we value human rights over tax breaks. How we carry joy in struggle. How our love, our unity, is something they can never buy.
They fear us because they know: we are powerful.
We are love in motion. We are the children of the sun.
So raise your head high. Hold your values higher. And remember -
El sol sale para todos.
La gente unida jamás será vencida.
